Short Encounter — A German-Danish Filmmaking Exchange
Are you a young filmmaker interested in meeting filmmakers across the border, developing a new short film idea and exploring new ways of working together?
We are looking for three filmmakers from Filmværksted Odense and three filmmakers from the Flensburg region to take part in Short Encounter — a transnational filmmaking exchange between Denmark and Germany.
The project takes place during the 25th Flensburg Short Film festival and aims to create new connections between emerging filmmakers across the German-Danish border, while exploring collaborative and alternative approaches to filmmaking.
The programme
18th of November — Arrival in Flensburg
Filmmakers from Odense will travel to Flensburg, with their train ticket paid for by Filmværksted Odense.
19th of November — Short Encounter
Mette Bihl and Peter James from Filmværksted Odense, will introduce the exchange and facilitate workshops.
Then the filmmakers will work in transnational teams to develop an initial idea into a short film concept and pitch.
At the end of the day, the teams will pitch their projects to a jury of film and industry professionals, who will select one winning project.
The winning project will receive DKK 5,000 in production support from Filmværksted Odense to help bring the short film to life.
What we offer
As a participant, you will have the opportunity to:

Be part of a new German-Danish filmmaking collaboration
Travel & accommodation
Filmværksted Odense will cover your train ticket to and from Flensburg on 18th of November.
A hotel room in Flensburg will also be provided for one night in connection with the programme.
If you wish to stay in Flensburg for additional nights before or after the programme, you will need to cover the cost of the additional accommodation yourself.

3 filmmakers from the Flensburg region
You should:
Be interested in developing a short film project
Be available to participate on 18th and 19th November 2026
Be comfortable communicating and collaborating in English
Be open to working creatively with filmmakers from another country
You do not need to arrive with a fully developed film idea. Curiosity, enthusiasm and a willingness to collaborate are more important.
